Universal CV boot kits

Post by jjmartin349571 » Sat Sep 14, 2013 6:05 pm

Hi folks,

Anyone had any experience with kits such as this?

eBaytastic CV Boot Kit

Ignore the Honda Jazz crap, it's a 'one size fits all' jobby that they have listed under loads of car models.

Anyway, I've been on youtube and it looks like they're straight forward to fit, but my burning question is;

As they are cheap and they are from eBay, are they jobby? :?

If they are then I'm left with a bit of a problem, as I can't find any boots specifically made for my BA2, and it needs them for MOT :evil:

They are fine as long as you make sure they are sealed tight each end

Awesome, cheers for that. I have found some OEM ones finally, but looks like Lings want £33 + VAT per boot :shock: So I think I will go down the eBay route :lol: even if I replace them yearly, it'll be 10 years before I'd have spent as much as buying the Honda boots. That's assuming the rest of the car lasts 10 years :lol:

i use these cone and cheap boots all the time. as ammo says, make sure the ends are really tight. also buy some more ties, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CABLE-TIES-ZI ... 5d407b00f0
as the metal ones can be a bitch to tighten as you really need special pliers to crush them. side cutters can crush the tab, but they do not crush even and could cut through the tie.

i use these with care.

I've got more boots to do on other cars, so I was going to go with the metal crimp clamps provided and get a crimping tool that also pushes the crimp in, as it wouldn't work out too expensive to use over 6 cars. Would cable ties be better then? I notice my BB4 has plastic cable ties on the boots, but then a previous owner was really in to bodging jobs on that car :lol:

the metal ones are better as long as you have the correct tool to crush the tab, plastic ones are easy,

If ur feeling really lazy there are ones that u dont even have to remove driveshafts which are split open an you get a special glue that you use to seal it back together . Ive used them a couple times an never had a problem with them but im not sure if they last forever as i have always changed cars alot :D

The ones in the OP don't need the joint or shaft removing either. ;)

no, but the hub nut and bottom joint need to be undone so you can get to the shaft.
