AND FIXED!
Good old expensive PC world and their cleaning alcohol and Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste.
1hours later and a heat gunned the bum droppings motherboard and rsx chip. It works.
Until the next time it fails. But good to know it works again.
Although it displayed nothing. i was confused but it went into service mode so it would only initially display via scart quick swap over and HDMI works fine now.

Guys
I bough Bioshock Infinite today and decided to play it. Iv not turned my PS3 on since i finished the Last of Us a couple of months ago.
Anyway after 30seconds my fans kick in and get louded and louder like VTEC but with several stages of kick.
And they stay on and my PS3 sounds like a hair dryer NON STOP.
Iv played Bioshock for a few hours now. Fans have been on full blast ALL of that time.
The PS3 itself is extremely cool. No heat to speak off. Even the cyclone of air being pushed out of the back from the fans is no hotter than you blowing a badger.
Its quite cool.
What the viz?
As usual the internet tells me nothing. All i get is "oww ylod imminent", "owwww you need new thermal pasts"
Bla bla. The PS3 doesnt get hot.
Could it be the power supply now.

I fixed this before by blowing out masses of dust in the console
but probably not your problem if you only just opened it up

It's weird, I played those two very games just recently and remember thinking that the PS3 had got louder. I put it down to it being summer and the room being warmer etc etc.
Lately, been playing other stuff and its fine again, I wonder if those two games are pretty power hungry and cause the fans to step up a notch?

Could be that.
I took me PS3 outside and spray compressed air around it from my compressor and its help. The console now takes around 20mins to get the fan up to the same speed.
Annoyingly after 1 hours of playing the PS3 cut off with 3 beeps. Luckily it restarted fine.
Maybe i should wipe off and put more arctic silver onto the heat sinks.
Anyway. Bioshock Infinite.
Not quite Bioshock 1 is it. One of my favourite games.

Oddly, you want to be careful of how much thermal paste you use when seating heatsinks. Too little, not enough heat is transferred, too much and it starts to insulate the processor rather than act as a bridge for the heat.
Have a gander on facebook, you'll see guides on how to do it.

No, it's notRattyMcClelland wrote: Anyway. Bioshock Infinite. Not quite Bioshock 1 is it. One of my favourite games.

Stick with it, I actually ended up enjoying it as a game in itself, but no it doesn't have 'that' feel of the first two, unfortunately.
Oh and I agree with t'lemon. I've never had my PS3 apart, but successfully fixed the ollllllld xbox 360 that I have, took a couple of 'goes' before I was happy and that was down to the thermal paste. 'Just enough' was what I determined to be the correct amount
