Vtec has become weak and possibly low on the power front.

So it seems over the past week or so, the vtec kick has gone from intense to barely noticable. i have been worried on a few occasions that it wasnt working at all, but if i pay attention to it i can feel it. but before it was a very obvious kick when it happend.

Im gonna give the oil a change as its pretty black, and take off the vtec solenoid and give the screen a clean as i have heard it can cause this kind of problem.
Am i on the right track? is there anything else i should be looking at?

Also i dont know if its due to the vtec issue, but when me and @Ash.Z went to the drag racing, there was a good 20mph difference between us on the finish line.
It felt like i was losing power somewhere.

I had a read of your profile, and would like to know if its still just the breathing mods getting you to around 215bhp you are running? and the weight loss of course!

I know its hard to know whats going on without getting a dyno readout (which i cant afford at the moment), but i would like an idea of where to start looking for possible problems that might be causing a loss of power.

Hey Chris, bang on with the Vtec solonide screen mate, I recon that would be my first starting point and it's an easy clean. Vtec relies on engine temp as well so maybe check you don't have any air locks. As for my hp at the mo it's up at 242 as I've fitted cams, intake mani, Hondata ECU and played with the exhaust. Also had a tune up at PAW. The car weighs in at 1080 at the mo bud. If you need a hand and think I may be of help feel free to come up to Honiton.

Mine was dog slow when the centre silencer split all the way along. It wasn't massively noticeable noise wise, although you could hear the blowing at idle. I reckon you'd notice if it was this though.

Thank god for that!! not just my car giving up the ghost then!
If you have any knowledge of doing the headgasket and cambelt on our engines that would be a massive help! i lose a lot of coolant, but dont overheat according to the temp guage in the car. and there is no water in the oil or vice versa and cant find a coolant leak. its a weird one.

And i'll let you know how it turns out cleaning the screen wiggs. hopefully will get it done sometime this week.

im pretty sure the exhaust is fine but doesnt hurt to check!

When were all the basic service items last replaced, i mean plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil and filter change. A leak in exhaust system, especially mani or downpipe will loose you power.
Cleaning the vtec solenoid every year or two is definately good idea, but that is probably not the cause of your issues. If it were surely vtec would not engauge at all??? As far as i know vtec can't half engauge, you either have it or you don't.

I'm no mechanic mate, more a part time tinkerer. Head gasket, and cambelt would be a garage job for me buddy.

Plugs, fuel filter and oil and filter need doing. i slapped on a k&n air filter not long ago and it make the vtec kick a little more agressive (or so it felt to me).
