Mostly FPS's, it would be nice to be able to play them on high settings. Been playing a bit of NS2 and that struggles on my current setup at 1920x1080

Yeah, that card will be fine on high settings, possibly even ultra to be fair! And that motherboard will support 2 graphics cards, for SLI maybe one day

Lol stop tempting me. Is there anything cheaper that will beat my current card £600 on a PC in one hit is a bit much, sold my BB4 for less than that lol

Haha, just save and get one in a couple months after xmas. I will have a quick look... Dont gimp ont he motherboard, processor and ram though!

Bit of a strange question from me, given I work in IT but as a server/network admin, so my knowledge of current desktop tech is limited!!

I'm looking for a machine to run as a server at home. Doesn't need to be overly powerful, but my plan is to run 2 VMs on it, 1 x linux (mysql) and 1 x windows 7. I'll probably be looking around 4GB RAM (2GB for each VM) and enough CPU that it doesn't crawl.

Main criteria is it must be (almost) silent, and not consume a huge amount of power as it will be on 24x7.

I have been looking at HP Microservers, but now the cashback offers on them have finished they're a little expensive for what I need!

Any ideas?!

notice your quoting NVidia cards, do you prefer them to the radeon's or AMD they called now?

I'd take a look at the HD7870, they are pretty good value.

I'm still using a 5850, couple of years old now but still gives good results on 1920x1200.
I can't hear it running either, though that may be because of the 7 case fans
