2ws convension questions...

Post by aleksanderbn » Tue Dec 03, 2013 9:44 am

Greetings from Norway! I'm gonna convert my 4ws 5th gen to 2ws and have a few questions.
The parts i need is the rear subframe and toe arms right? Do i really have to replace the trailing arms also or is this not nesecerry? I can'r see any difference between driving with locked 4ws and 4ws trailing arms and 2ws with 4ws trailing arms :)
Thanks!

No idea on the trailing arms, but what do you mean by "Locked 4WS"?

The trailing arms are the same. All you need it the 2WS subframe and toe arms.

No need to change the trailing arms just the crossmember and the bits bolted directly to it.

Isn't the trailing arm the one that is bolted in front of the wheel and at the hub? The people at Honda was certain that arm must be changed in order for it to work... I seriously can't see why. But guess they were wrong then:) anyone know where i can but a good subframe that ships to Norway? Thinking going with aftermarket adjustable toe arms.

If the 4WS stops working or you pull the fuse it will lock up:)

Unfortunately it wont. When the 4WS is not in operation the rear wheels are only held pointing forwards by a couple of springs. With enough force the rear wheel will turn and cause the car to crab.

You dont need to change the trailing arm as that connects to the lower arm, and you don't need to change the lower arm. All you need to swap is the 2WS subframe and the toe arms.

You can get the 2WS subframe from a 2.0L BB9 or a JDM BB6. Be careful that any 2nd hand toe arms you buy have good ball joints on them as if the ball joints are bad, the whole toe arm is useless. You can buy after market toe arms.

I am sure tramroadmotors above did Alex's 5th gen 2WS conversion.
