Help - Non Start

Post by nick_s » Fri Dec 13, 2013 11:50 am

Right, had brand new dizzy on my 2.0 Gen5 auto.

I have spark and fuel. Turns over and fires for a split second then dies (garage say it stops sparking). Any ideas as I am fast running out of cash and the will to live :(

Have you downloaded the 5th gen service manual and had a look at the trouble shooting guide for a non starting engine? It lists the possible causes (that do not cause the CEL to come on) for a non-starting engine.

Am struggling to negotiate that document, any idea on which pages that section starts?

Found it.

I think it may be because the red key was used to start the car....could this cause these kind of issues? It turns but won't fire. Manual suggests it needs to be relearned, but makes no mention of how to do this.

Yeah you shouldn't use the red key :(

You have to take it to Honda and they will reprogram it.

Spoke to Honda just and it's £25 to recode.....have to say if it is my fault, I will properly kick myself.

That aside, my local garage are superb, they are keeping the bill for labour etc stupidly low.

That seems a good price for recoding. I was expecting it to be a lot more.

I was shocked I must admit, was expecting more. Granted, I got to get the car there first with the keys, but according to Honda, she's doing everything she should be in the scenario where I used a red key to start the car.

Going to get myself another black key whilst I'm there and leave the red key dafuq alone from here on in!

Well it is good that Honda is confirming that this is what should happen when the red key is used. My red key is still in its original packaging.

Yep, props to Honda. She's en route this afternoon for the reprogram.

Must say, my local garage are legends. Spent many hours on this issue, and recovered my car from home to there and are taking it to Honda......for the princely sum of £60. Think some booze and chocolates are going their way over the weekend.
