Possible cheap rear brake upgrade

I have been speaking with Performance Autoworks over the possibility of making a batch of rear caliper adapter plates for the Honda prelude. This is so that you can use 302mm x 11mm Ford Mondeo 2.5lt (07 on) rear discs (the Prelude rear discs are a tiny 262mm x 9mm) with the standard Prelude rear caliper. The Mondeo discs being 2mm thicker will also deal with heat better.

In order to use the kit the rear hubs need to be tapped for M12 bolts so that the mounting plate can be attached, the OEM carriers need to be shaved slightly so that it fits. The Mondeo discs need to be re-drilled to your desired PCD and the bore of the centre hole may need widened. I anticipate the machining of the two discs will cost around £20 from a local machinists.

I do believe I am running 5 stud, if I can get this to fit mine, I'd be game (price permitting).

As far as I know you will be able to re-drill the discs to 5x114.3, providing the holes do not overlap with the holes in the disc. I would be very surprised if there isn't enough room for the re-drilling. 4th gen 4x114.3 is 100% good as Rich has already done it.

Just to make this clear to anyone that is unsure. This upgrade should only be used where you are running larger than stock Prelude brakes, ie larger than the 282mm discs normally on a Prelude. Using this with standard front brakes may screw up your brake balance resulting in the rear wheels locking up. IMO at a bare minimum you should be using ATR/Legend/EP3 discs & calipers on the front in order to make use of this rear brake upgrade.

Just to add to that merlin you will most likely need a manual bias valve, abs systems may compensate for it?

The mondeo disc can be easily drilled to 5 or 4x114.1 but a specialist needs to bore them out, I guess rich will provide these done??

I've copied the toyota avensis conversion from the polish and I do prefer it to spacing out the caliper and tapping out your studs, I'll be looking into producing them after Xmas but I want to at least test them before I can make any more.

No idea mate, I don't have ABS. I am hopeful that fitting this kit means I don't need a brake bias valve (I am going big brakes on the front).

Obviously if you have a brake bias valve you have much more control over what the rear brakes are up to.

No this will be up to you. It is very easy, I have got machining work done before. Find a local michinist and take the Mondeo discs and one Prelude disc with you. Say make the holes on the Mondeo disc match the Prelude one

. It should be quick, cheap, and saves Rich a load of hassle.

Also tapping the hub is not as daunting as it sounds. All you will be doing is slightly widening the holes (using a drill bit) in the knuckle where the carrier bolts normally side through, and then running a tap through the hole. Tapping and die kits can be had for as little as £10.

Can we use Hyundai Santa Fe 2013 rear discs?
They are 302mm x 11mm solid non vent discs 5x114.3 but the centre bore is 67.1 on the car and the discs are 69 bore. Our Preludes are 64.1.
