cam pulley shifted?

Post by Rob_Cool1 » Mon Dec 16, 2013 10:54 pm

Hey all, going over the car yesterday and i noticed that the exhaust cam pulley looks as if its shifted slightly. it has marks where it originally used to be so i dont know if someone's moved it or its shifted a few millimetres. Also on the exhaust side there is a normal bolt not an alan key one like the rest of them, shall i order another and replace it?

After the gasket gets done and i sort the rad fan out I'm going to get it mapped so il see about getting these adjusted too

Cheers
Rob

Seems a bit shifty that the one you think has shifted has the 10mm bolt in :?. I Have seen first hand the effects of adj pulleys slipping. One of them a 600hp celica = motor full of methanol and no go!!. If it was me, id remove it, take apart the 2 halfs and de-grease any contact points. Then put it back together with a new bolt and torque them down. ;) That's me tho, maybe a little picky

Had a look on a few forums, apparently 3 bolt cam pulleys are renowned for slipping :/ i will defo get another bolt when i find out size it is and a locking washer too! i might see about getting a 4 or 5 bolt cam pulley, do i even need it? what are the gains of having adjustable cam pulleys on standard cams? looks i guess? I cant find any pulleys, standard or adjustable online! :(

I was gana say thats loads of effort but i suppose it would be better to do that then it slipping even more and the valves hitting the piston and ruining the engine!

If i am honest, no. There is no point unless its massively tuned and running silly hp. A good friend of mine has a eg hatch with a b18 in it. He wanted to fit adj pullys so i fit them for him. Took it to tuners in oxford and the tuner said hes not gna touch them!! It still made 201.8 bhp on a stock c4 bottom end with type r running gear!! so not needed. Just look real cool. :D
