Hi!

I'm in the market for an A/V receiver (I think) and I'm after some advice please...

Basically, I want to set up a basic home cinema system. I would like to somehow connect my PS3 to a projector for video and a bluetooth speaker for sound without there being any lip-sync issues. Note - this is only a temporary thing until I move house when I am likely to install surround sound speakers with hidden wiring.

I've read that some A/V receivers can compensate for audio delays etc; this sort of thing would be ideal, but I am trying to find one that would work with a bluetooth speaker – so therefore would need Bluetooth output and a configurable time delay setting for the video output (so I could delay it by around 0.5 seconds to match audio).

Firstly, is this setup feasible?

Secondly, can anyone recommend me an A/V receiver?

I would like to buy something that will do what I want it to now, but also be reconfigurable and expandable when I upgrade things and add things.

I currently have the following things which I would ideally like to be able to connect:

Inputs:

• Virgin Media TiVo box
• PS3
• Laptop
• Desktop PC
• Various iPhones, iPads, Android phones etc.

Video Outputs:

• Optoma HD131X 3D 1080p projector
• Sharp Aquos LED TV

Audio Outputs:

• Edirol MA15D active monitors
• Philips Fidelio P8 bluetooth speaker

I would imagine that very few AV receivers will even begin to think about outputting to a low fidelity Bluetooth speaker - Your best bet there might be an intermediatory device which can take an analogue output from the receiver.

The other devices you wish to have as an input shouldn't cause many issues, HDMI for all of those that support it, a feature of any receiver nowadays, and the phones can submit audio via Bluetooth or DLNA via the network.

Some receivers have multiple HDMI outputs I think, else you'll be looking at using some kind of splitter, which will be OK providing both devices (TV and projector) both support the same features (3d, 1920x1080p etc) and report the same via their EDID messages.

Nothing is truly future proof, but the near future is looking like offering 4K via HDMI, whether the current crop of devices support higher framerate 4K when it is introduced, we'll see, but for current use, HDMI 1.4 supports 1080p 3D and HD audio, as well as 4K @ 24fps, which will still take a few years to become mainstream enough to be a problem. (Especially as the new consoles struggle with 1080p @ 60fps even now, and they've got last 10 years...)

Lip sync is a common feature, almost every receiver will be able to do it.

Cheers for the info dude, much appreciated. So in a nutshell, it's pointless trying to use my Bluetooth speaker for movies?

To be honest, it's not much of a hardship to have cables running across the room on the odd occasion we watch a movie on the big screen.

I'm definitely going to fork out for an av receiver though, and a decent set of surround sound speakers - but probably not until I move house.
