Yeh sounds like clutch has excessively worn, or poss loose/dislodged spring. Or poss even input shaft bearing knackered.

Car has done about 15000k's and I never had any problems with the clutch before but 2 days before it brok down it did start having jerky pull aways. I hope it is the clutch and have got a new for £55, will be striping it down when the kit arrives

Update - ideas please..

Ok, so we've stripped it all down & removed the gearbox. Points of note;

- Clutch is fine
- Release bearing is fine
- Driveshafts are fine (and were located correctly)
- Cambelt is fine
- Crank pulley is fine
- Compression is fine

- Slave cylinder is leaking
- Spark plugs have significant oil on the threads

So, given the facts, everything seems to point to a shagged diff in the gearbox. Because the slave cylinder issue would not cause a loss of drive, & the oil around the spark plug threads I would assume is unrelated (though still a problem of course).

Considering the above points, does anybody have any other ideas as to what could cause you to lose drive? Before we go ahead & spend several hours installing a replacement gearbox. :roll:

Symptoms were (as far as I can gather) a horrendous noise whenever the clutch was engaged, with the noise discontinuing when the clutch was disengaged. And no drive of course, in any gear.

Thanks.

And big big regards to @knightmare (Paul), who came over at a moments notice to help us disassemble everything. And by 'help' I really mean 'school' us on how to remove a gearbox. We could not have done it without him. Fact. He doesn't even own a Lude anymore, but is still there to help us out. What a legend. Thankyou mate, both Damo & I owe you one. You're a gentleman. :clap: 8-) ;) :hail: :rock:

Right, we've turned that & both the moving parts (which the driveshafts sit in) are indeed moving. But we don't know what gear it is in. As Paul explained; if 1st gear is broken, and it is in 3rd for example, both of those will still move. Plus, it's not under load. Does that make sense?
