Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

Android MMS issue

Post by Donald » Sat Jan 18, 2014 7:51 pm

I'm not receiving MMS for some reason.

Not on Hangouts, not on the stock Messaging app and not on Go SMS Pro.

Tried disabling apps in various combinations, right now I'm just running the stock app with the third party app uninstalled. Still not working.

I'm assuming this probably isn't an Android issue but more a carrier issue? I'm on O2 PAYG. I've gotten them before in the past but for some reason it's not working anymore.

Yep.

Tried on two different connections in different locations if that makes any difference.

Sometimes wifi connection is the issue, have you tried it just on 3G?

I'll give that a try.

I'm receiving all SMS fine.

I'm sending MMS fine. Just tried to send myself an MMS and it's marked as sent and the pennies are removed from my PAYG balance, but it's not here. Same thing with SMS works fine.

If it was a WiFi issue would it not just come through as soon as the connection stopped and I was back on data?

Okay so I just turned WiFi off.

Sent MMS to myself, received fine. Using the stock messaging app as default.

Any idea what's up with the WiFi then? And as said, why would the message not just come through later when running on 3G/whatever?

Edit: Sorry Nexus 4 with latest OS. Just to make sure you have all the info!

Just reset APNs back to default. Tried sending again connected to WiFi and still nothing. Still sends on data.

So works fine on 3G, and doesn't work on WiFi?

In that case, it's O2 doing user authentication the lazy way. If you're on Wifi you are asking for the message from 'outside' their network, so they say no. If you're on 3G, you're definitely you as you're on your mobile number getting data from their network, so they give you the message.
