Recently my engine has gonefrom startingon the button, to turning over a couple of times before starting which seemed a bit out of place so I went and dove into the engine bay for some proding and checking...
Now I have uncovered a couple of things I would like some pointers on if possible?!.
1. How do I know if the engine is the original engine?!... I only ask as the guy I bought it off had a few mk5s and he wanted to keep his higher millage ones (120k) but was selling this 72k one, which I thought a bit strange but people have their favourite cars hey. Now how do I know if there has been an engine swap? The Silver plate in the engine bay has a number on it, which I thought would match up to the sticker on the front of the block but they are different?!!!.. think they are 7 digit numbers but not the same... DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN. Am I jumping to conclusions or should they be the same?!
2. There is some oil underneath the car on the drivers side of the chassis/block... (none dripping to the floor but visibly wet all the same). ALSO worryingly some possible residue on one corner of the block around the head maybe?? Looks slightly old but could be a weapy head (ARARAGGHTHGHTGHGHGHG I hope not)
3. If there is a weapy head what is the most cost effective cure? I have helped rebuild a kit car engine and done all the seals and head etc but old pinto engines are more straight forward

Thanks for reading. hopefully some discussion can put my mind to rest a bit, quite anxious.
Best regards, Will.
