No pressure at coolant bleed valve/bouncing idle

Post by vanzep » Thu Feb 27, 2014 3:37 pm

just a quick question
I took off my iacv today as im getting a slight bouncing idle on start up and noticed that the hoses had coolant in them and there was some moisture in the iacv itself
i hjavent dug out the manual yet but was wondering if this was normal - i can see one of the hoses goes from the iacv to the thermostat housing but just thought id check before putting the new iacv back on :?

They are meant to have coolant in them. There are coolant lines that go from the thermostat housing to the FITV and IACV and back to the thermostat housing.

Here is a diagram showing the stock config of the hoses from a thread when I was looking to delete the FITV from my old engine:

I would give the cars coolant a good bleeding just to make sure there is no air in the coolant system.

well as usual there seems to be no pressure at the coolant bleed valve - i need to squeeze the lower hose to get any coolant to come out. Coolant all looks ok and i have no loss of coolant. water pump, rad and hoses have been changed
bouncing idle was worse than before when i started it up after bleeding it :?
whatever is going on here is a mystery to me.....
having said that the car starts on the button and goes pretty good and has a rock solid idle once its warmed up

If it is bouncing on warm up id look at the fitv valve first. Let the car cool start it up so that the idle bounces, take off intake and cover the lower hole in the throttle body with your finger. If the idle settles then the fitv is the problem

its only bouncing on start up once its dropped below 1500rpm its fine. not a major problem but just wanted to fix it if possible.
yeah will do that test on the fitv tomorrow :)

There is definitely coolant flowing throughout that system in the diagram? I looked at Paul72's car other week and corrosion had blocked up a pipe, stopping the flow to the valves !!!!
