Low profile trolley jacks?

Post by Merlin » Mon Mar 26, 2012 4:36 pm

Has anyone had any experience with any particular low profile trolley jack? I'm eyeing up the cheaper ones on Ebay. My current jack is too tall to get under my 5G so when the 4G is lowered its deffo not going to fit.

i got the 85mm to 450mm clarke one £99 when i got it.

its an old design but solid enough for home enthusiast. they have basically just rolled over the last design but lowered it  so no double pistons but it does the job.

Just had a search on Driftworks and they all seem to be recommending Arcan Jacks

Something like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ARCAN-3-TON-P ... 768wt_1396

They mention you can get them from Cosco but i've never heard of them

There is one in Costco, looks decent and sturdy. Not sure if its an arcan one, its around £120.

I had trouble with the Lude, especially after fitting the kit.

My much cheaper alternative was a fence post the width of the car. Slipped it in front of the wheels, drove forward 6 inches so i was on top of the post and the jack then fitted under without problem.

Remember to make sure the post is still place when lowering the car though...

I've had the clark light weight low jack, it's perfect apart from the screws quite often fall out!

And it's only rated to 1.25 tons, unfortunately my friends Audi a8 is over so I now have a broken jack! Looks like bluepoint do a very nice one.

It's about £250 tho!

Ive got 2 Arcan jacks.
Both low slung and do my prelude with loads of clearance. Paid £90 each for them.
One is 3ton as A Ammo posted and other is 1.8 ton aluminium one and can lift the car nearly 45 degrees.
Good bit of kit and mine are well used.
and seals are still good after 2 years of regular use

Thanks for the heads up 8-) Seems the Arcan jacks are the ones to go for then.

Shiny - Thats my usual strategy as well but im after something more simple as I change wheels alot with track days etc... I have my routine when changing wheels, slacken both wheels on one side, jack up the front, and change both wheels :D The Lude is stiff enough to lift the rear when the front is jacked.
