3rd gen speed sensor

Post by Flashman » Thu Mar 06, 2014 3:30 pm

Ok ive noticed that my speedo is not reading correctly, i have ruled out the wheels but the problem is still present. Its a 2l ex model automatic with carb and when driving at 20mph (speedo reading) im actually going 30mph, at 40mph im doing the correct speed, at 70mph on the speedo im travelling at 55mph and when at 85mph im actually at 70mph. Has anyone got any suggestions on what i may be able to do to solve this?

Thanks.

Just responded to a similar problem in another post too.

is the car a UK or Jap import?

I had this exact problem with an import GTO. Same speed readings too. It turned out to be the speedo converter on the blink.

Ok so its been proven to be the speed sensor, problem is that honda no longer make the sensor. They supplied me with the part number but so far havent been able to locate one. Its for a b20a4 carb engine And its automatic, the part numbers are:

Both of these ive been told by honda will work as they are the same part. I know its just weird.....

74810-sf1-951
74810-sf1-952

Apparently only available for the 1990-91 prelude.

Again i am looking at present with little success, hopefully you guys can help.

Regard james

This has now been resolved. Replace the sensor and speedo mechanism. Speedo mechanism was the cause.
