H22 type s lost motion assembly help?

Post by 106pete » Tue Mar 11, 2014 12:04 pm

Right I'm rebuilding the head and want to replace the lma's as they tick.

The engine currently has cylinder style lma's but I've found the newer style is more of a simple spring, is it a case of just swapping them over or do I have to use the old cylinder style. I can't seem to find many of these forsale and honda wanted £300 each hahahaha

Yeah been reading about these longer and short ones, it seems this head required the long version as it's a older car. This is part number 14820-PCB-305

Sounds like these are way more expensive than the shorter version but I'll try tonight and get a price.

Are you not able to clean up the LMAs or is it a case that they get too worn and need replaced? I remember reading a couple of articles about this on somewhere like www.preludeonline.com - I think.

I know its something a lot of the older engines experience, so I will be keen to know how you end up sorting it. Probably gonna take a good look at mine when I hopefully check the valve clearances this year and see if there's anything I can do with the existing LMAs.

im about to fit some a8 ones from an a8 head I bought from Cebul to go into the a7 one, im pretty sure from research that your able to just clean up the LMA's unless their damaged or worn

These old lma's don't seem to come apart and the piston has worn ridges into the cylinder causing it to stick as it's tilting to a slight angle as it's worn.

Tbh if there's a upgrade I WANT IT :)

They come apart, there are hidden internal circlips near the top.

I refurbed mine with degreaser and paint stripper to remove the internal gunge (which usually causes them to bind).

Cheers! That should be helpful for when I sort mine.

Get them from the US. Cheapo. I used 14820-PCB-305 and they were a straight fit.
