Is it meant to sound like this?

Post by GOONIESnvrSAYdie » Sun Mar 16, 2014 5:23 pm

Hey folks, I've uploaded a video of this whine my engine has. I've not owned the car for long as some of you may know, only 2 weeks after owning it the time tensioner failed and I had to have all that changed etc etc. No internal damage was done and it's running perfectly. Luckily.

But, I've acquired a whine that I'm unsure if that's how it sounds or if it's a problem I can't seem to find the bottom off. First thing I thought was alternator but my mechanic mate who gave it a once over seems to think it isn't so we're back to square one.

Can anyone shed any light on it or suggestions of things to check?

Gareth

Is it a pump or something like the pas pump? Is everything filled to the correct levels, because I had a civic years ago and I had a similar noise and it was the pas pump and ther was no fluid in it :?

remove aux belts and then you will know is it an engine or something else (pas pump, alternator, air con pump).
My mate old mechanic also using long screwdriver to locate the noise issues. Basicaly you have to stick a handle into your ear and touch with other end parts of your engine. With a little bit of experience you can locate each faulty bearing.

Also your balance belt tension might be too taut

Only Honda PS fluid should be used as it reportedly has a unique viscosity.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll check that fluid today as I hadn't even noticed. See if that changes anything and use the advice above to try and track down the issue :)

I'll report back when I have news.
