OBD1 to OBD2 Cable for diagnostics?

Guys,

Seen these on ebay and, rather than the paperclip thing, wondering if getting one of these leads (3 or 5 pin to 16 pin OBD2) and a cheap OBD Diagnostic computer would work on my 5th Gen?

Or something similar?

Anyone tried one? Would it be 3 or 5 pin?

I know bugger all about this stuff and not sure if even if the pins are right the outputs given by the Honda would be the same as OBD2 and readable by the machine?

Thinking this may be easier to read for those intermittent faults or ones that disappear on switching ignition off etc?

Any thoughts?

PS - Just found Nitin's superb post (Rep +1) about doing the paperclip test and now wondering why I bothered asking the question as it's obviously a doddle. I'll leave it up here as still vaguely curious though - and what do you do if the fault disappears when you turn the ignition off?

I not sure what connector the prelude uses but i just got a bluetooth obd2 dongle to use withy my ep3.
I then downloaded a free android app called "torque" and i can wirelessly connect to the ecu through my phone, read fault codes and get all sorts of other ecu info.

I got it mainly to read fault codes but its quite a smart little device and was only about £15

All codes are stored by the ECU and are shown when your retrieve them.

Thanks Secla - I've been told that few preludes have an OBD2, hence the question cheers!

Only the USDM ones have the correct diagnostic port man, nothing JDM or UKDM does.

from what i've read so far, i think my jdm h22a uses a obd1. would it be possible to use the bluetooth adapter and the torque app ? if not the bluetooth adapter then some kind of cable

yes buddy it is. Guys on polish forum were investigating this and they confirmed it works. The only bad think is that the software is in rusian. But IIRC they do translation to english or polish.

Its using 3pin port located next to diagnostic connector, then you have to convert it to OBD2 style port, and using some quite standard cable uyo can connect it to your laptop.

I don't know any more details but there is a threat on polish forum so you can ask
