2,0i 5g Prelude Engine swap.

Post by Cature » Tue Mar 25, 2014 9:50 pm

Hey there, a few month backs I bought a lude, 97 2,0i with absolutely no rust! (rare to find in Norway) Anyways, I got the car for a nice price so yeah it was a no brainer, only thing is I want to swap my engine to something bigger, something more powerfull, something VTEC'y!

So the one I've got now is a F20A4 engine, but I was thinking of changing it to the H22A4. So yeah I got much figured out, need the engine, the gearbox, the ecu otherwise the engine should just fit right in. But here is the question.

How will my wiring be? Do I need the wiring harness from the H22A4 and solder all the sh*t together or should everything be like plug 'n play?

Thanks for any replies, and greetings from the land of the vikings, Norway!!!

It should all be plug and play, though you'll have to add a vtec wire and a knock sensor wire if the engine is JDM.

It's literally one wire each from the engine to the ECU, the manual can be downloaded from the wiki on here which will have the ECU pinouts so you know where to plug it in.

Which H22A4 is it?? If it's one with Atts then it might not work in your car. If it's the base one then you are good to go. :)

Will it not be the H22a5? H22a4 is the US 5th gen engine :?

It will be an H22a4 I belive, or a5. Unsure, depends on what I can get my hands on. And It will be without ATTS and I will upgrade my brakes to the one's on the Acura Legend or NSX ones :)

Hi,
I am at the same situation at the moment with my 4gen.
No modification to the body of the car is needed, but for the wiring it is more complicated. I need to add these wires: IAB(2), Vtec (3), Knock (1?).
Also You need exhaust manifold and down pipe, with O2 sensor, in my case, the sensor was in front of the engine, H22 his under the engine so i recommend You to take all the wiring for the engine section.
Distributor is also different on h22. don't know about injectors.
NOTE: these obstacles I had to deal with swapping from f20a4 to H22a to my 4th gen. Do not know much about 5th gen but I thing there shouldn't be much difference.
God luck!
