End of an Era...Which Gearbox/LSD combo

Post by RattyMcClelland » Thu Apr 17, 2014 9:37 pm

Right guys....the greddy Emanage Ultimate is too limiting on forced induction setups but is much more suited to N/A remaps on the Prelude. This is the words of an experience tuner who tunning my car.

So

Im doing it...

ATTS is going.

But no fear. Socketed P28 ECU and OBD2 to OBD1 conversion, ATTS delete plates and my choice of LSD gearbox.

So no the question is

Do i go for a Accord Type R U2Q7 Helical box that has wanky non Prelude VSS and shorter ratios
or a normal gearbox with an Mfactory LSD (Quaifes are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$)

Being a supercharger the power is more spread out so a shorter ratio gearbox isnt absolutely necessary as ill be producing torque out my ass throughout the rev range.

Suggestions please.

Oh and i will have a Greddy Emanage and Boomslang harness up for sale you Type S/triptronic Sportshift owners.

Or, a 'normal' box with an ATR diff in it ;-)
Don't be vexed about the VSS, mine was a simple gear swap. :)

OK, I have 244bhp rather than the 300 odd you're wanting, but I find it a great balance of grip and day to day drive-ability, one of the best mods I made IMHO.
I liked the ratios of my original 'box, hence why I kept it. Still allows me to munch the motorway miles too 8-)

Just to add another factor into your choices, I'm pretty sure you can split the VSS, using the U2Q7 bottom with the prelude top part, effectively giving you a prelude VSS that fits into the accords gearbox.

With the torque you'll have, I'd have thought a longer ratio box would be better though anyway?

I don't have the U2Q7, but I have the M2P4 which is AFAIK essentially the same, sans LSD. I think you will be much better off with a box with longer ratios as already changing into third gear just before 60 is a PITA on a sprint. With extra power I imagine it will get very tedious very fast, assuming you're going to be somewhere between 250-300bhp post tuning.

Cheapo UK 97-98 M2V5. It has the lower UK final drive (4.062) and a longer 3rd  Then your choice of diff.

The gearbox in my 4th (the M2F5) has the same 3rd ger as most of the gearboxes but a shorter 5th ;)

and I agree while the lsd boxes have the "lsd" the ratios are not the best in the 4g 1st was pretty useless I know I was undertyred so it knocked out all the ratios and fook me was it quick it wasn't good on a run out on the motorway go for a h23 box drop the lsd in it if it will go in the extra torque will make up for the ratios
