By the way, right now I am deciding what oil to use in my freshly rebuild gearbox. That's why I read several forums about grinding and oil. As I said, no matter what brand, you must use light viscosity. My impression is:

Amsoil Synchromesh - good for short time, not very much miles later it is the same as old oil.
Redline - good for long time
Honda MTF 3 - just quite many loyal users, because it's very cheap (For example I get 2 liters for £10-12)

Then I separated posts from gearbox builders. They recommended:

Honda MTF 3 - strictly for daily drive
Torco MTF - daily drive
Torco RTF - racing

Anyone tried Redline or Torco?

And a OT question: will 2 liter be enough for freshly rebuild box? If I decide to buy not Honda MTF, I don't know to take 2 or 3 bottles...

Can't remember what I used but it certainly helped as said though its your reverse synchro causing the issue

Bah - it looks like this is a feature they're still working on. There's no neat way to hack it in at present

I have never read anything bad about Amsoil

I have it in both my Ludes and have done for years. They take a beating on track and are both over 200bhp (just). I have never had anything other than silky smooth gear changes. Im sure that I read the specs of the oil and it exceeds the Honda spec.

2 quarts will be enough.

Having spent ages reading up - I have elected to try the Torco MTF. I will report findings back here once it's in the box

i would have thought different oils would preform differently in different gearboxes with varying amounts of wear, for instance - new gearbox with oil x would prob get different results from an older box (with some wear) with same oil.

Who knows as there isnt any way of quantifying the feeling of a gear change. If its smooth, its all good

I suppose the major differences in how it feels would come from when the oil is cold (driving from startup) or extremely hot (hooning it on track).

Well, I think I can safely say...no!

3rd gear vtec to 5th.....crrrrrrrrk! But, and this a big old but, the general day to day gear changes are now superbly smooth!

So for that alone I'm glad I used it. Better than any other ? No idea

and Type-S bods - you need 2.2 US qts
