SRS Systems

Hello chaps (and chapesses).

Trying to find information on this but not having much joy. I have a pre-facelift 4G, the SRS system comprises of a single airbag in the drivers steering wheel. If I swap this wheel out, and remove the SRS bulb, would that be enough for an MOT pass? Or do they know it would have had SRS from factory?

Any info appreciated!

It 'should' be enough in my eyes. Depends how on the ball the MOT tester is I guess. Most of the rest of the system is hidden, like the yellow harness, sensors in the footwell and ECU behind the panelling.

I say it'll be fine.

You don't have cruise control do you? Or want to keep it?

Evene if it's just the horn, you may need a contact ring from a non SRS lude or, just hard wiring the horn in has to be cut into the SRS harness once you remove the SRS cable reel.

I'm probably making it seem more complicated than it is, quite simple really. You'll be fine, if certain 'others' wer asking I'd be more concerned!

It'll be fine. Maybe check to make sure there's no stickers anywhere too. I guess final thing to completely remove the system and save a little weight (if you want) is to remove the sensors and ECU - wiring is a nightmare to remove as it's wrapped up with other bits and pieces.

Mine is even more obvious as I have a passenger airbag still sitting there doing nothing!

Soon be gone though, plus my MOT tester is also my best mate!

Yeah, I think I have only got the speel on the sunvisor to worry about. Some solvents should remove that easily

Also, the cable reel on my lude is a really simple affair (it became a lot more complicated post facelift). I reckon I'll be able to wire everything up with the greatest of ease. As soon as plans progress I'll update my profile with my findings

Actually, I hadn't thought about the horn contacts on the Ludes.
With the CRX, SRS and non-SRS wheels have different contacts for the horn button, it may well be the same for the Lude (I don't know for certain, as I've never had an SRS Lude).

It's possible that its the same as on the CRX, in which case theres a very good How to on http://www.delsoluk.co.uk.

Do not need the srs to be working for an MOT: it is classified as an extra such as air conditioning etc.

Wrong. If it's fitted it must be working. From the MOT Manual:

1.
An airbag obviously missing or defective.

Note: A passenger airbag that has been switched off is not a Reason for Rejection.

2.
A Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp:

. inoperative

. indicating a system malfunction.

Meaning if it was fitted from factory it should be there and functioning.
