Carbon Fibre Bonnet repair/cost?

Post by nitin_s1 » Sat Jun 07, 2014 1:33 pm

So after the track day session at Japfest, I had my bonnet up and as the wind was so terrible it blew my bonnet back and hit the roof. :?

Thank god for Carbon Fibre, it flexed around and it was light so didn't damage the windscreen/roof :scaredtoss: :hail:

But the hinges were the bonnet attaches to are broken/cracked and you can see the carbon fibre weaves.

And also, the the lacquer is really bad on it. The surface is really smooth but it has gone white from underneath the clear coat.. :? Like this

I want to get the Bonnet re-sprayed to match the car's OEM colour but wanted to know roughly how much I should pay to get the damaged bits repaired and the whole bonnet re-sprayed. :?:

Thanks

Nitin

xx

id get into it with a lacqier dripper and fill in all the gaps then sand it all back. then take it into a sprayshop for a coat of paint. Bare in mind that carbon can be a muffin to get painted. lots of undercoat and sanding.

I was thinking about that too. If it gets too many coats of undercoats will it make it heavy?? I know it won't be that heavy as the OEM but still heavy ? :?

na, a liter of paint weighs a KG yeah? and less once dry and cured of all solvents. You wont make that much difference to it even if you lather it on. I put like 8 coats of 2pck lacquer on mine and it made no difference that you can feel picking it up

A load of epoxy resin over that and a good sand down should sort it... I think thats repairable.
Then if your getting it painted over the top the repair won't be noticed anyway 8-)
