Ok so the H22 is in the civic, got everything wired up and ready to go too.

Managed to do some tomfoolery on the immobiliser from the prelude by holding the original lude key next to the barrel in the civic with the civic key in the barrel. Amazingly, the immobiliser goes off with the civic key alone now, not quite sure how that's happened!!

Anyways, the starter motor. Basically, it cranks the engine a bit (for maybe half a second or so) then makes a fast ticking noise and wont turn the engine over any further.

I've tried it with the civic battery (310CCA) and the lude battery and even both connected but no joy. I've checked the grounding and that's all fine too so am running out of ideas now, any suggestions?

either a sticking solenoid or the battery is crap

Okay cheers merc. Will try the lude battery directly connected rather than through jump leads and see if that does anything for it. Is there anything that can be done to release to solenoid on the starter?

Have you tried banging it with a rubber mallet whilst somebody cranks it??

Cheers merc. Took the battery out of the S2K and tried that instead, was cranking like a good un :-)

Next problem, it won't fire! grrr

There's a CEL on the dash from the H22 ECU, I've not wired in the alternator charging control, IAB contol or Vtec yet so I'm pretty sure one of these is causing that light. I can't check as there doesn't seem to be a diagnostic port on it :think:

Anyway, I've tried firing it with the throttle slightly pressed and throttle off (just in case there's an idle control valve issue) but that made no difference.

The civic and lude are both OBD2a (strange being a 99 h22a8) but it's definitely 2a, anyway. The dizzy connector hooked straight up so I haven't had to do any messing around with that, the fuel pump primes & the injectors connected straight up without any messing about.

Any further suggestions?

We'll not having them wired will throw a code. I would wire it all up first but they should still allow the motor to start. What year civic is it? If it hasn't got a 16pin then it will be a 5 pin for use with a HDS. I'm pretty sure there should still be a 2 pin. You will need to check the basics. Make sure injectors are firing, make sure there's a spark. ;)

And also if you get the wiring diagram for the ecu pin out, find out which ones are for the 2 pin dlc then bridge them out at the ecu. ;)

It's a 98 civic with an obd2a ECU, seems a bit strange to me that it doesn't have the 16 pin whilst being OBD2.

Anyways, I've checked the basics. There's definitely a spark and there's definitely fuel (can smell the fuel out of the exhaust after cranking it) but still no go :cry:

I've checked the firing order on the injectors and that's all OK as well. The dizzy hasn't been removed since it was last started so that can be causing the problem and the timing belt hasn't been changed yet either so the timing can't be out.

I have also changed the main relay to the prelude one (read somewhere that can help) and have changed the ignition and battery fuses to the higher rated prelude ones as well as ensuring all the grounds are correct but still no joy. The motor started fine a few weeks ago when it was still in the lude so it's gotta be something related to the swap but I'm running out of ideas.

I did notice there were a couple of vac lines disconnected still, would this cause a staring issue?

No shouldn't do. Saying that, doesn't the h22 use a vac line to the map sensor?? If that's not connected I don't think it will fire, but not sure on that tbh. Yea obd2a doesn't have it i think. I'm pretty sure it's the obd2b that has the 16pin. My civic is obd2a and doesn't have 16pin dlc. If you have air, fuel and spark, then there should be no reason why it won't start., unless something is out of time!!! :?

Okay, did some extra snooping and changed the spark plugs too as the were looking ratty. Didn't help.

Tried to fire it up from the d16y7 ecu and it jumped into life first time!!! So it runs on the wrong ecu which is a bit crazy. Could it be an immobiliser issue with the prelude ecu??
