Blown clutch master.

Post by Bludge » Mon Jul 14, 2014 9:33 pm

Let me just start by saying: Bloody bloody, stupid pissing muffin car! :x

My clutch master seems to have blown its seals, again.

it was less then a year ago that i replaced it. i cant remember if it was a new one i replaced it with.

Is there likely to be something causing this? or am i just unlucky?

bit of luck with finding we stock them at work though, so hoping it will be cheap on my staff account and i can get it done tomorrow evening.

will have a look when i change it tomorrow. what would cause the pushrod not to be straight? something on the pedal side?

possibly it will be either a bad master cylinder, bad seals or the pushrod putting too much stress on the seals

Just found my thread on replacing it the first time and it says i paid 65 quid for it on ebay, must have been new. maybe poor quality.

Would there be any indicator of the pushrod stressing the seals too much?

How do you know it's the master? Is it leaking? Have you checked the slave?

the slave looks fine, its hard to tell with the master as it leaked before so all the paint is knackered underneath, but it felt a bit wet. and exactly the same symptoms as last time. lots of travel in the pedal and clutch resevoir is empty.

Yeah, if it had been a second hand one then i could understand it, maybe it had been sitting around unused for years and the seals went brittle. but if it was new? thats less the 12 months use.

I think the ones at work are pagid so will hopefully last better, or as least come with a warrenty!

I had a leak from my clutch mc a few months ago but no problems since - i did buy a new mc from the motorfactors and it cost about £54 and is made by LPR - their part number 2560. Ive still got it here but mc hasnt leaked since so fingers crossed it will stay in the box for a while longer.
