Ok so this might be really geeky

but does anyone do this?

I found it online and we decided we'd start doing it as something cheap / free to do with our spare time as a 'couples activity' other than just cars, and started today.

Basically... There is an app / website, where people list co-ordinates for a container and you have to find it using a GPS and sometimes clues. Kind of like a treasure hunt?

Sometimes there is just a list in the container, sometimes 'items' that you can take and swap out for an item of equal or greater value. Containers vary in sizes and 'difficulty' but there are literally thousands. Sometimes containers lead to other containers. Some you can drive to, some require hours of hiking!

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

I used to do it a few years back, my mate was a nurse working night shifts at the time and I've always struggled to sleep, so on his nights off we would stock up on food and drink then used to drive for miles and miles, look for geo caches and just find random places. Proper nerdy, but I saw some beautiful parts of the county I wouldn't have done otherwise, and it passed the sleepless nights

When I'm out with the dogs I still have cheeky look for caches every now and again, but I find it weird in daylight cos people who see you think you're mental

Yep. The one we found earlier was a tiny capsule with white paper rolled up in a bit of cellophane on a high street, clearly looked like we were dealing drugs

I put in Bruce's postcode though (countryside, Cambridgeshire) and there's about 5 just within a mile of his house, it's awesome! We don't even have to travel far (YET).

But that's not all within a mile

Annoying that for some of them you have to pay £25 a year membership though, but I guess it's worth it if you really get into it!
