what possible reasons for not getting fuel into the engine?

checked over everything mentioned above and everything was good! had a look at my ecu and the connector had worked ever so slightly loose, cable tied it secure and it started! i quickly set off to go to Mr Gayno's, got to the bottom of the road and it completely cut out
just got my dad to tow me home, had another look at my ecu and it is getting hot when im trying to start the engine
just got a new ecu from ebay so we'll see if that sorts it
