The issue I have with THIS particular vote, is that, to me anyway, Salmond seems to be totally winging it, he has no clue of what to do (and what he can and can't do)if he gets his wish.
EVERYONE needs more of a plan than that

Have you done a nitin and only read the last post?BMCC wrote:I don't see anything in this thread that is asking for serious debate just rants about if your going your not coming back, your too poor and uneducated etc. The usual. To be fair that was some time ago and the topic was about lift incest and then someone mentioned independence and the whole thing got a bit crazy, I don't think the same result is going to come from a SERIOUS discussion between adults about the benefits/drawbacks of independence.
If this is what LG is coming to then my enthusiasm is going to wane very quickly no matter what the outcome on the 18th.

Seriously?!BMCC wrote: No I read all the thread and as per usual when it comes to Scottish Independence it is wholly negative and full of pokes at Scotland or mr fishy etc. Poor show.
No more comments from me on this issue I think I've about had it.
You are of course right, and I am of course wrong. To quote George Bush, I misremembered!Sailor wrote:Not so.Doggo wrote:Sailor, the UK Government didn't resist the devo max option being on the ballot paper. Westminster/Cameron very much wanted it, but lost/relinquished it in negotiations with Salmond who really wanted to get rid of it for reasons that apparently are only now a lot more obvious to a lot of people.
From The Scotsman, 2 years ago:
"In a blunt message to Scottish politicians and voters, sources close to Prime Minister David Cameron say an increase in powers – such as devo-max – is “inconsistent” with staying in the UK"
Other papers at the time were baffled by the position.
More recently (Monday), the New Statesmen had:
"After calling the SNP leader's bluff in January 2012, the PM had denied him the second question he wanted on devo max."
and
"The UK government originally insisted that it would only give Scotland the right to hold a binding referendum (a power constitutionally reserved to Westminster) if it was staged by September 2013. But this demand was dropped in return for Salmond agreeing to a one question vote."
