Anyone used Auto Glym engine cleaner?
I bought a bottle off Amazon as it has good reviews to clean up the engine bay of my Lude as it is a bit oily and generally dirty. The instructions say spray it on, rub it round with a brush, then hose off. I'm a bit concerned about the hosing part though in terms of getting electrics wet. Any advice?

imho just get in there with a few little wire brushes and a pot of petrol and then pressure wash the whole thing.
General guideline is to cover the obvious electrics with a bag and go steady. Dont douse anything obviously not wanting to get wet and make sure the engine up the temp to evaporate residual off nice and fast.

you put down about 1/20th of the water with a pressure washer though. hose is a massive amount of water and only rinces off. pressure washer is minimal water and removes much dirt...
pressurewasher is safer imho but if it ends up clean and it still starts its counted as a win

I used a water based degreaser diluted with water in a spray bottle, work it in with a paint brush then pressure wash it off. Definitely need to cover the electrics though and don't use the pressure washer on the rocker cover, sounds obvious but I found out the hard way and my aerodeck developed a misfire. I got water in my spark plug hole and frazzled one of my kv85's

From another thread:

Excellent degreaser but no blame if you drokk something up pleaseDonald wrote:Something easily obtainable and cheap... such as trisodium phosphate will remove most carbon residuesSPYDOR wrote:Depending on the material and/or coating of the exhaust tip you ideally want some strong cleaners and a scouring pad or some steel-wool if it is bad as you need to get rid of the build up before you start polishing the exhaust8 tablespoons to 5l of water should be the right proportions to make a fairly strong cleaner IIRC, some people bump it with some bleach too (approx. 250ml). Just don't get it on your skin, eyes or clothes as it's pretty alkaline and it will do damage
I don't want the blame for anything going wrong, it is a tried and tested method though.
