Yea to swap it for a known good one. No joke, unfortunately, there is no way to test the unit itself. :x

i doubt it, even if that was the cause that would more cause running issues than anything else

right...here's the update.

ran her up today (so deffo not a fuel problem) and waited for the problem to start again.

after a few mins i turned her off...waited and then started her up...nothing. ok, time to start looking.

took the distributor cover off...

scorched to fook inside, the ignition coil's terminal surround (plastic tube thing) that contacts the dizzy cap had pretty much corroded away to nothing, leaving the dizzy full of dusty powder.

luckily had a spare, swapped it out and she's running fine; apart from my FITV is now jammed open for some reason :-S
