Advice delivering 7.5ton on a SORN. Trade plates? Help.

Post by lewd lude lover » Sat Nov 22, 2014 1:43 pm

Hey guys I need some help.

I am in need of a motorhome delivering from rugby to gloucester. It is 7.5 ton class 4. I dont as yet have a licence for this so cant drive it myself. It is also on SORN so I am really trying to work out a way to get it home without all the cost of MOT TAX and insurance when its just going to sit and get worked on for the next 6 months.

Ideally I would like to pay someone who has trade plates to drive it back for me but am open to any advice please.....

Can anyone help? Does anyone know anyone in the trade? Someone who likes a bit of easy cash?

Can pick them up, drop them off whereever I just need some contacts and some advice...

What is the mimimum to drive it back at the moment? Could I book it in for an MOT locally and drive it straight there? I know you can do that but would it be a bit of a body lemonade take to drive it an hour and a half on that grey area?

Any help very much appreciated.

Trade plates don't cover MOT mate, they only cover tax for trade purposes i.e. delivery of stock or test drives. If it's got no MOT it can't be driven on trade plates :(

As for the MOT booking grey area thing I'm not sure how that'd work out, but I wouldn't fancy chancing it on a long drive :?

I am looking at putting an MOT on it locally and then putting it out to tender for a self employed trade plated driver.

either that or a low loader.....if the price is right...

You need to book it for an mot within a "reasonable distance" read into that what you like, I would imagine it would all depend on the copper that has stopped you when it flags up as having no tax mot or insurance on his anpr camera. Personally I think you should join the aa or similar and see if you can exploit their system somehow on a its broken down in rugby and I need to get it home. Personally I wouldn't want to drive it back. Good luck james.

Cheers ted, thats cracking info. I wouldn't want anyone to risk licence or vehicle so at the moment, after research, it seems there are plenty of pick up and deliver MOT places in Rugby that will take care of that bit of lawful need and then I can get a trade plate driver to just pick it up and drive it back nice and legal.

Well considering you can spend close to 50k on a vw t5 camper conversion with less room and equipment. Bargain.

there is a grands worth of leasure batteries in there and to be sure the guy has a far far far greater level of fabrication skill than I do. Luckily the pics make it look like a student den so I managed to get it for a decent price. The guy appreciates its going to a good hme..

I just need a bloody C1 licence so I can drive it now
