I agree Wurly we should be pulling back on what we consume rather than genetically modifying crops when you have no idea of what going to happen in the long run.
I have heard stories of bees dying off because of these crops but the difference between scare stories and actual truth is lost between the 2 campaigns.

I've no idea re the vaccination wurly, I would suspect that it was a conspiracy hangover from the vaccination hearsay in the 90s rather than a financial consideration. Someone asking for a non-existant deadly disease vaccine in a country where it isn't prevalent doesn't strike me as someone who'd be concerned with the economy or practise of the healthcare system. That's an assumption though.

Being at UEA you can't get away from the GM crop debate as well as climate change (I think the John Innes Centre/Sainsbury lab are primary advisors to the gov for both now?). My views are mixed on GM crops I suppose. As merc says, it's so muddied at the moment. There are huge benefits and drawbacks, as has been outlined, but cutting back on consumption is not the primary issue. Let's educate on population control instead.

I'm gonna come out and say it. Stop the developing countries breeding like rats. Fine, I understand that the situation is dire and more hands = more potential income. I understand education in some of these locations isn't what it is here. But come the drokk on. When basic hygiene is lost, when the desire to help yourself is lost, when drokking pigs have a more evolved system of living, i.e. don't jobby where you eat and sleep... you have to wonder. I firmly believe that if aid is stopped the situation will normalise in a very short period of time. But that is of course controversial and an unacceptable way to treat people. I don't believe it any less though.

Views on euthanasia? Veterinary surgeons are obliged to either treat a condition or end suffering. Why shouldn't we afford the same courtesy to humans? Especially those that ask for it!

I agree with you Donald, if there is a food or water shortage animals will not conceive. Why are we not following the rules, Humans will breed even if they cannot feed themselves why would you bring another life into the world if your starving if not to eat it lol.
There should be a mass sterilization to give the world a chance and I also agree with the stopping of aid people who wait for handouts might think twice about what they do if they are no longer receiving handouts.
The Euthenasia argument is a hard one people in that position some are very good at making decisions some are not I think they should be evaluated by a panel or something before the decision can be made.

yeah me too although I assumed you meant people made their own decision not the doctors I think people should be evaluated before they make said decision.

I started to jot down my thoughts on Transhumanism. I drivelled on to over 600 words before I stopped.
I don't know how to precis it and still say what I felt like saying.

Whichever you prefer! I'm not sure if there's a word limit on PMs. Might be a good post for here though, if anyone else is interested of course. You never know what it might spark. It depends entirely on whether or not you think it might be incendiary, and then if that bothers you or not

Nah, sailor,.. put it on here in the public domain, I'm guessing most of the discussions on here may be helping Donald to formulate his theses on these subjects, although I'm not sure Euthanasia and GM crops were totally on topic.

GM crops not particularly on topic, but GMOs are. Euthanasia/assisted suicide is very on topic as I think it has a place in healthcare, although I didn't initially set out to discuss it.

I think technology aside, this century is going to see a huge shift in what people think is acceptable.

And this is definitely helpful, I am always surrounded by similarly minded people, or those that believe function>feeling, so to be exposed to perhaps different viewpoints is good.
