H22 high-pitched whistle from throttle body area

Post by Adam BB4 » Wed Feb 11, 2015 8:58 pm

Hi all. Been having this problem on and off since i bought the car, but it's come on strong recently and won't go away. It does it when accelerating and putting the engine under load. Definitely coming from the throttle body area, and definitely not the air intake, exhaust manifold, belts etc. Have tried the suggested method of spraying brake cleaner around the area in the hope it will find a leak somewhere and change the tone of the engine as it does, but no joy. When the noise comes on strong i also seem to experience a dip in power...this must be related. Hopefully one of you guys has come across it before or has an idea what it could be. Its driving me mad! Thanks

Sorted it guys, it was actually the exhaust downpipe right under the throttle body area, had a bit of a bad weld on it and it was causing the whistle. Happy chappy now :)
