4g Prelude not starting

Post by Drax » Mon Mar 23, 2015 12:09 pm

in a link to this problem;
http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/electri ... 15516.html
in which the Battery was the first thing tested, I have gone through a few more things and checked them, so;

-key turns and you can hear the fuel pump prime
-try starting and starts turning but never gets going
-you can smell fuel from under the bonnet when you have tried to star the car
-no leaks visible of oil of fuel from under the car
-battery tested and swapped to double check
-all fuses checked
-main replay swapped and checked
-spark plugs checked
-dizzy swapped and checked

my thoughts are now either starter motor or alternator. any other thoughts?
thanks.

You can check the output from the alternator - should show around 14.2/14.7 volts :)

Since the engine is not running the alternator wont be putting out any power?

If the starters turning the engine over then its not that, I wouldn't have thought its the alternator because that shouldn't stop the car starting..

have you checked you definitely have spark? Take the plugs out put a plug in the lead and rest against an earth turn the engine over and see if you have visible spark..be careful not to touch the plug directly as you do this obviously you will get a shock :shock:

Yep youd need the engine running to check the output of the alternator :roll: :lol:
but when the earth connection broke on my alternator when i was driving it killed the car stone dead :?

however most non starting issues seem to be distributor related - ive had issues in the past where i have not put the disti back in exactly the same place when swapping it over

seems logical to go check for a spark as @JEBB4 says ;)

I'd get all the plugs out and see how good the spark is looking, then maybe swap the ecu?
