I thought you had to drop the engine to replace the crank pulley (Harmonic damper) I bought a brand new one last year for the type S I had, was about £190

Nope you can do it in place. Also you don't "need" the locking tool but it helps. It is possible to jam a pry bar in the flywheel inspection hole and brace it against the teeth of the flywheel. This locks up the crank shaft and stops the crank pulley from spinning.

OMDDDDDDAAAYYZZZZZ

2 hours spent trying to open 1 bolt on my crankshaft pulley today. Breaker bar, impact gun and even some dodgy flywheel jamming and engine turning didn't work ! I called HONDA for some information hints on how to open it and they said use a couple of fat people on the end of a scaffold pole    Cracked me up !! But really I need a locking tool as although jamming the fly wheel stopped the engine turning my bro was scared of putting too much pressure in case something buckled !

DOES ONYONE HAVE A LOCKING TOOL THEY CAN SEND ME BY POST THAT I CAN THEN SEND BACK ( if your lucky I might send back a little pressie with it ;) )

Plleeaassseeeeeeeee !!!

You need a jobby load of torque to get it undone, over 180 lb/ft if I remember correct. I know I couldn't do it by myself.

An impact gun wont be up to it. Like Honda told you you will need a beefy breaker bar + a big bit of heavy duty pipe to get it off.

You wont buckle the flywheel, well you shouldn't, I had my cars one removed by this method. But it takes a couple of guys to hold the flywheel brace in place and someone pretty large (ie 16+ stone IMO) to loosen the crank pulley bolt. A crank pulley holder should make it a bit easier but you still have the problem of how to hold the crank pulley holder in place.

Mine needed a bar welding onto the crank pulley (as it had split due to force with the locking tool) to hold it still and a 9 foot scaffold pole with 16 stones of mechanic on the end.

I think @Vanzep has some oversized Frankenstein style crank pulley tool. You might be able to sweet talk him?

And @nucleustylzlude might have a massive crank pulley tool as well.
