a20a4 engine tuning

Post by smithyy21 » Tue May 05, 2015 7:21 pm

Hi everyone anything I can do to the a20a4 engine to Make it a bit Faster or is it easier and cheaper to do a engine conversion? If so what's the easiest engine to swap into it?

Is this for your 4th gen?
If so then its an F20a4.
Do an engine swap. H22 will drop straight in with the same driveshafts and gearbox.

Will its impossible since the A20a4 was in the 2nd Hen. Are you sure its an A not an F?

F20a4 is the 2.0i 133bhp SOHC from the UK Prelude.

Ok it was a dirty F lol, so it's easier to just stick a h22 in her what would I need engine loom, engine and ecu?

Not 100% certain but you will need a h22 ecu and potentially the loom for vtec operation.
gearbox and drive shafts are the same but you might want a closer ratio box from a h22 as the f20a4s box has a long final drive .

Then I drop straight in. Same engine mounts. Might need the exhaust or at least the header and collector.

Brakes are bigger on the VTEC ludes too, so you'd probably be best to upgrade yours while you're at it.

I got excited when I saw this, thinking someone else was tuning an A20A4 engine but I was let down :(

H22 conversion is the easiest way to go. If your car is a UK spec one, get a UK spec H22 ECU (the JDM ecu is different). You might be lucky and find a car in a breakers with a H22 and M2B4 LSD box as well :)

From memory, the loom will be the same other than the addition of the wiring for VTEC which is simple enough really. It's been a few years since I've done a H22 swap though.
