also wrong yes you have to do a bit of wiring so that the ecu passes the correct signals to the autobox but you dont have to run a piggyback as such you can run a standalone ecu with the original ecu only getting the signals the autobox needs to decide when to change

That is the same as what a piggy back ECU does?

nope a piggyback interupts and changes the signals and is also limited in its scope a full standalone ecu has more benefits but you keep your original ecu just to run the auto box

not the same thing at all

So why cant the americans run a standalone ECU on the autoboxes? They all run biggy back. I know some have to for OBD2 tests but others dont.

By stand alone are we all talking the AEM rather than the like of P28 etc... Ratty it is probably the cost of it. The AEM is what, £800-£1000 new?

Can the P28 be used in place of the AEM?

By stand alone I mean an ecu on its own. So p28, aem etc.

I read there is no way around it so they have to piggy back. However I can't be sure.

i spoke to a guy in the states that was running an Aem on an auto box using the oe ecu just to pass the signals to the box the engine side of things was handled by the Aem.

no not a piggyback at all  by definition a piggyback cannot control the engine on its own it needs the original ecu to do the job for it then it just tweeks certain limited parameters,
A standalone doesnt need the original ecu to run the engine it can do it all on its own keeping the oem ecu to run the autobox does not relegate it to a piggyback.

if you dont want to keep your atts or your autoboxes crack on and remove them if you do you have to get creative doesnt make it a bad case if that was the case you would still be on your push bike as most mods are a compromise.
