I'm tuned on vpower too but it was 99 or 95 :scaredtoss: so went for 99. Shouldn't be any knock moments as the tesco99 is a higher octane rating than vpower which I think is 97 RON so will be more resistant to the knock moment.

From a previous discussion with LLL while at PUK the tesco stuff is cut with ethanol to increase the octane number (for the number on the pump probably) and subsequently knock resistance. But with a lower energy content because of it so in theory shouldn't go as far on a tank but this time has gone further...

don't know where you got your info from but i work for tesco and their fuel comes from BP and its the other way round ;) tesco 99 is 97ron with an additive that is no good for our engines and is not 99ron at all. have tried and my knock sensor retards and the engine pinks. Vpower is full stand alone 99ron and only one in the country.

Wont Happen Matt. Rich/Si map the cars with a factor of safety involved.

Both mine & yours would still be capable of running regular Super in the off chance Vpower or Tesco99 is not available.

Thorney motorsport did a head to head of vpower vs tesco99 vs the esso version vs regular unleaded. The tesco stuff had a higher octane rating which allowed the timing to be advanced further and create more power. If the octane rating was lower this wouldn't happen and it would produce less power.

I opted to get a tune on vpower off the advice of paw as shell make their own fuel where tesco as you pointed out buy it in which can lead to inconsistency in the fuel. To me i had a safety net getting it tuned on v as had scope to still buy a higher octane fuel if it wasn't available, as I had to last week.

There was a rather long discussion about this on PUK, I'll try and find the link now.

The surprise to me is that the mpg is better with the tesco stuff.

Like stk I get the points and vouchers too 8-)

Was caught out the other day though and had to get some regular from Esso, seemed like I managed to get about 60 miles on £20 and it felt flat as hell until VTEC :?

i would be wondering if your foot was just a little less heavy for a couple of days on the momentum mate? or that the air temp was was lower? those figures are quite close together in the grander scheme so maybe its an enviromental difference thats causing the difference?

the only reason i ask is that iv got a general increase of 30-40 miles on a tank on a steady run over the two fuels.

i had to put in normal shell the other day and the car feels like its asleep

James, you made it home then! How's Rich?

It could be the temperature thing, it has been a lot colder the last couple weeks so the motor won't have to work quite as hard. Didn't think it would have that much of a swing tho as the vpower should give better range under the same conditions

maybe tesco got in a really good batch? vpower is a stable product. you know exactly what your getting every time.

maybe tesco got a batch that was acctually a bit better than the norm? they will have a much wider tolerance on acceptable standard. im sure its generally toward the bottom half of that scale but maybe this shipment was in the upper reaches? you should go get a dyno while your still on it. you never know...

got home great. 7pm.lol... take the missis out as im thee hours past ETA

rich sends his regards and has mine ready for collection on monday. ill be over soon and you can show me some local roads
