second cooling fan removal question? ?

Post by GJMHONDA2012 » Sun Jul 05, 2015 7:40 pm

Hi guys just a quick question? Ive done an aircon delete on my bb1 prelude only thing that ive not removed is the secondry aircon cooling fan and just wondered if it was worth removing it the fan comes on at exactly the same time as the other one and goes off at exactly the same time aswell but just to ask really if its worth takingIit out and will just the 1 fan be sufficient for the overall cooling

I have thought about this too. But I have left mine in place. I doubt there is anything to gain by removing it, apart from the smallest amount of weight. Leaving it in, is going to give better cooling in traffic on hot days. That's just my opinion though.

Thats what I thought ive left it in for now but wasnt sure whether to take it out or not I guess it would give u a little more room at the front of the bay but like u say extra cooling for hot days etc is a bonus

Yea, I would of thought it better to leave it. The weight loss you get by removing it, is going to be very small, and I can't see any other advantage. I removed my air con too, a few years ago.

The aircon fan does not come on all the time with the rad fan. It comes on when the engine is excessively hot. It is not 100% needed. I don't have it on my 4th gen.

It's not worth removing it for a road car, Merlins is a track beast and does not spend much time sat in traffic in the hot weather.

the aircon fan has a metal shroud so is quite heavy compared to the radiator fan
i removed it when i took my aircon out and fitted the plm manifold as there wasnt much room between the fan and than mani.
I do a lot of town driving but have a massive koyo racing rad fitted so no issues ;)
