Thanks for the warning Merlin :)

Basically giving the whole setup a bit of an overhal now. I've got a type s strut brace which I want to fit, along with the Teins (hence the thread). While doing the rear struts I've decided I'm going to get a 2ws subframe in too and save a few lbs as well.

After all that I'll take it to get the alignment done then it should be on rails :D

You wont believe how good the car will feel after being set up properly through an alignment.

I must say though that the if you have a good fully working 4WS system I (personally) would leave it in place. Your not going to notice the reduction in weight if you have non-stripped car. In my opinion the 4WS is nothing but a benefit. But its your choice ;)

Do you know what the weight difference is? I think that would be the clincher for me, I want to get the weight down to <1250kg without being too hard on the interior if possible.

Sun roof will have a carbon plug over the next few months hopefully :)

Someone else may know the exact weight of it. Its really only the motor itself that is the difference, maybe 30kg but thats a total guess.

I dont notice much of a difference (in weight terms) between my stripped 2WS BB4 4G and my fully loaded 4WS BB8 5G. Where the 4WS is concerned, IMO what you loose in weight you gain in driveability and grip. Saying that 4WS feeling is a personal choice, some people just hate it. Haters gonna hate and all that :D

I do like the increased manouverability around town with the 4WS but 30kg (even roughly) is quite a bit of weight to save for changing 1 thing and goes a good way to the diet :)

I've lost the thread of what you were saying a little though Merlin, think I have my dunce hat on this morning  , are you saying the handling is better with the 4WS or better with 2WS?

Handling is better with 4WS. Obviously that is my own thoughts but 4WS was always touted as able to reduce understeer.

I can see that working, I always find the back starts to go before the front on a wet roundabout.

Food for thought

Got the JDM basics installed yesterday, turns out you can't modify the top hats to be 5stud ones so looks like I will be buying these at some point.

Anyhow, big thank you to LLL for coming round to help, by help I mean do most of the work, and Bristol_bb4 for sending the spring compressors :D

I have a couple pics I'll get up later. The good news is with the springs and smaller wheels the car isn't too low either. Also had a chance to test out PAW's handy engine work against a type s, thanks again James ;)

a very enjoyable afternoon. It was great to actually be in a garage doing work on a lude. regardless of the sun we had

you were definatly getting through your gears a bit faster than I. 17/45 dont help  I was hanging back a bit due to stones and the terminal fear i have of the bonnet flipping up and blinding me at *legal speeds* but i think you have better torque in the mid band for sure. It would be good to have a drag at santapod. really test the mettle ;)

I have never driven a lude with 2WS unless it was a type S so cant really give an objective opinion. It looks really cool when the rear wheels turn when at low speeds but i always found it gave out before the front gave out on my first ukdm. that was a long time ago though :? and i spent most of my ownership of that car sideways anyway

get the parts, change them over and see what you think. you can always swap back and sell the 2ws on. people generally dont swap back from what i have read though.
6th gen Prelude please Mr Honda. RWD 2.4 turbo lude.

I've noticed the back is always first to go with the 4ws. I'm just liking the thought of saving a few more kgs to get the most from the power and torque the motor is putting out and almost all cars are 2ws anyway.

Also, if they did the type s as a 2ws model then it must be quicker than having 4ws. I'm hoping the subframe is next weekends project, be a good chance to compare the difference in handling and the weight savings :)
