You havent changed anything lately? Cambelt of altenator belt?
My cambelt is a bit tight so the waterpump whines a bit.. Hope that won't kill the bearings...
Might be your waterpump bearing too..

No no belts changed during my ownership, so since November. Anyway, I drove it home in anger and noise has gone :?

I will keep an ear out for it as I suspect it will return :(
