Trouble going into 1st when cold

Post by Gayno » Tue Oct 13, 2015 8:10 pm

As per title. Gearbox is JDM LSD with TCS

Have lived with it for over a year now, once the box has warmed up there's no issue, it's only when cold.

Gearbox oil was dropped and replaced with AMSOil a couple of years ago by PAW.

Is this something seriously wrong with the gearbox, or an "undocumented feature"?!

My aerodeck used to do this at around this time every year. As soon as the cold weather hit I had trouble getting it in to gear. I found if I topped the clutch fluid up it worked fine, until the same time the next year. Was odd because I couldn't see any sign of a leak.

It's done it all summer as well, so it's not the cold of recent weeks.

Sounds like a worn friction plate on the clutch to me.

Clutch is on its last legs, but wouldn't that apply to all gears not just 1st?

Nope, old civic of mine only did it in 1st and reverse when cold, once clutch replaced it was gone. Was the worst plate I've seen, was to the rivets

Well this one has done around 75k of hard driving so is definitely on its way out!!

Is sort of related to the above question, as don't want to have the box off replace clutch only to find box/gears are knackered and it's all got to come back off again!!

Mine also does this. Makes it a pain for getting in and out the garage.
So new clutch is needed then??
