Hello all from a new 5th gen owner

Post by BrokenSpring » Wed Nov 11, 2015 4:31 pm

Hello All
So i've been looking for a good clean car for about 6 months now, originally looking for a Subaru or civic type r, but this lovely number came up and i couldn't resist the good condition 1999 Honda Prelude 2.2 vti :)
Really liked the test drive and decided to go for it. Drives great and 4 wheel steer is interesting. High miles (121K) but in great condition (as far as i can see for now)
Can't wait for the weekend (without rain please) to really get under the car and have fun.

So i was wondering if you guys can recommend and good Honda specialists and or garages in the north west area? Initially i am looking to have somebody who really knows the 2.2 vtec engine to give the car a good check over and tell me any major issues that are present. After that we can start having fun :)

Where would be the best place to get some new fob’s as the ones with my 2 black keys will not work and the buttons are super dead.
Are there any good places for parts for the 5th gen cars?
Does anybody have some carbon style centre console and door card inserts, mine are the wood effect and not too keen on them.

Will have to add some pics on Saturday once i am not working :)

TDI North in Warrington is not a million miles away from you, as they are a Honda specialist but very popular so you may be waiting a while.

My wife lived in Glossop for around 6 months, nice place :)

Bring the new lude to Oulton Park JDM North meet in a few weeks too

Yea i really like Glossop, lived here for about 5 years and will be here for a good while. Also being at the bottom of snake and Woodhead passes is amazing :D

TDi were my first stop as i have see other people talk about them but when i emailed them they said they don't really deal with older cars like the Prelude's :(
I am really struggling to find anyone else any good up here.

Oooh i will have to check out the JDM North meetup.

Welcome to LG!!

The H22 is not that different to the B series VTEC engines so anyone who is familiar with Honda engines of that era should be competent. TBH the Lude does not need any real specialist knowledge to maintain, anything that is unique to the Prelude can be found on here. In the past I used to use my local garage to do everything to the car, they did it with ease.

Ah nice, thank you for the links. Will try dropping those guys a call and email tomorrow.
Trying my best to traul through this great forum to get my knowledge up on this great car but theres loads of content.
I do have a local place who i have trusted with my other car so may get them to have a quick look too.
Is the manual belt tensioner conversion easy enough for a beginer home mechanic to fit? or is it best left to a garage?

Well that's what I've heard so just thought I would go for it. Very capable car so far. Needs just a few odd bits doing like hand break tightening, a door bulb and possibly a 7" pumpkin double din :D :D to get the ball rolling.

Noticed a bit of vibration from the front passenger side wheel on the motorway at 70 so may need to do the track rod ends, but could also just be the wrong tyre pressure. Need to have a good poke around the car in the daylight when it's not tipping it down.

Would anyone recommend the pumpkin double din's or are the expensive tat?

I'm sure I will have a load of questions for you all, but I promise I will try to use the search first.

Welcome to LG The first thing I would do is change the cam belt unless you have a history with the car showing when it was last done.
I have kleptomania,
But when it gets bad,
I take something for it.
