6.5 inch components in 5th Gen

Post by funkmasterjay » Wed Apr 18, 2012 12:36 pm

HI all.

Well, last night I decided to hack my speaker pod to install a VIBE woofer. Still did not fit. So I decided to attemp to mount the wooder directly to he door with an MDF spacer.

Has anyone done this?

Cheers,.

Jason.

Get some pictures up of how your door card looks?

I think Ratty did a similar mod, look at this thread.

doors are 6" holes not 6.5"

I used mdf rings and cut away all the plastic in the way

x3. Cut all the plastic away. MDF spacer and mount to the door.
My speakers were too big and deep for this so opted for door card mounting speakers.

same. use a little glass and resin to hold the door parts solid once you have hacked out all the strength or the covers will keep falling off when you open the door ;)

Well, I used this link for inspiration.
http://www.preludepower.com/forums/show ... p?t=240993

I literally chipped away bit by bit. My door card is pretty mullered now, so I have to bite the bullet and get a new one.

Has anyone got pics of their MDF rings?

I will upload pics in the minute - currently uploading to Photobucket from my mobile.

I put 6.5" components in the stock location. I actually bought mdf rings as I was expecting to need them but with a little trimming of the edges of the speakers and the supplied adapters, they fitted in the holes fine (with the basket cut out)

Hey Skinny. Sorry thought I had a pic of the door card.

I have hacked the door card to buggery with no joy. These speakers are BIG lol.

I have put them up for sale and will order a smaller pair.

Suprised I don't hate this car yet. lol
