5th Gen auto box info needed

Post by newkid » Thu Jan 14, 2016 7:52 am

Anyone any experience on the 5th Gen auto boxes. Bought a 2.2 vtec last night as it was to cheap to turn down. Knew it had a box problem hence price. Goes into first and second no problems just the rest it's having none off. If it's new gearbox time be another going scrap heaven.

Cheers

Try calling Rich @ PAW- worth a shot to see if there are any common simple fixes...

No checked fluid as was late on. Receipts show last changed in 2011. Might be worth changing it?

Neither jobby brown or cherry red. More a browny red. Guy stopped driving it as soon as it started playing up. When cold can do reverse first second and forth. When heated up only first and second.

Also worth whipping off the solenoids, I think there are small gauze filters underneath which can clog up.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^ main issue with a lot of auto boxes and you can also buy replacements smell the oil if it smells sweet it ist the oil if it smells burnt the box hasnt been looked after with these boxes you really have to treat them like a vtec engine.

You wouldnt rev the balls off a cold h22 its the same with the auto box drive smoothly let it change up and down under its own steam until the car is warmed up before you start to give it beans. (this means if it feels like its hesitating to go for the next gear dont put your foot in to make its mind up  )
