IGNORE!!! MK5 IGNITION BARREL
hi, I am looking for an ignition barrel for a mk5 1999 2.0 lude, I'm 100% sure this is my problem, the car starts but as soon as you let go of the key it cuts out, it was running then just cutting out, if anyone has anymore info on this or has a barrel let me know

I agree with mercutio. Its most likely the ignition switch - prety striaght forward to change and was indeed a recall on the 5th gen.

This was happening to mine when i brought it and i fixed it myself, takes about an hour, you just need some wet and dry and paper towels. There is a really good write up online, you just need to disconnect the ignition switch, open it up, clean it out and clean up the terminals and put it all back together. Cost me 69p to fix! and not had any problems since!
