I purchased a 95mm x 45m roll of 30 micron aluminium foil tape through eBay for £3.78 + 2.95 P&P during 2009.Lankysod07 wrote: What's is it that you used?
After degreasing and cleaning the heat shield, the crease where it rubbed on the valve cover was fixed by gluing a stiff metal mesh behind it and cardboard was used to reinforce it on the engine facing side. My (ex) girlfriend & I painstakingly covered the under bonnet heat shield in two layers of the aluminium foil tape. It was very lengthy & fiddly task due to the shield having many contours rather than being flat. New trim panel buttons (HFX 343) were purchased from Halfords for £1.99 as some of the originals were damaged when being removed (they are stubborn to remove intact) and it was fitted during May 2009. The aluminium foil helps keep heat in the engine bay for longer periods after shutting down the engine which can mean that the engine will be warmer when restarting it after a period of time, like for example, returning to the car after shopping.
