Was this changed before the problems started, or after?
it was changed after mate.

the problem has been slowly building over time with the engine getting harder and harder to start in the morning.

i'm still looking toward the FPR, I'm off work tomorrow so intend to hook up the fuel pressure gauge and get a proper idea of what exactly's happening inside the fuel system.

Thing is, even with a fuel pressure gauge you still won't be able to tell if it's the FPR or the pump. As all you will see is a pressure drop off within the system. Get the manual and do the FPR test as shown. Will req both a fuel gauge and a vac pump to be able to work the FPR without engine running. This is what I did with the civic. The FPR was within its limits so the only other pressure holding was in the tank/pump.

after doing a bit more looking around, it sounds like after I fit the pressure gauge, I need to:

1. monitor overall system pressure.
2. clamp return line after fuel pressure regulator & remove vacuum line. if pressure was low and then rises, it's the FPR.
3. if FPR return line is clamped and pressure drops when engine is off, then it's the fuel pump check-valve causing fuel to drain back to pump.

or maybe i'm totally wrong.

Right, gauge has been connected.

Only reading 200kpa at idle (got to convert that to psi) but working pressure should be 40psi which is about 275kpa...Hmmm.

I turned the engine off and immediately gauge started dropping as it was draining back.

I clamped the return line and the pressure continued to drop so I think ive worked it out....fuel pump check-valve. Upgraded pump in the post :-)

Now just to work out if 200kpa at idle is enough. Maybe the pump is slowly dying but I dont get misfires or anything like tgat.

 Just thinking allowed, if it was dying and not dead wouldn't the natural vacuum of the engine running supplement the failing pump?

As I say just a thought

Mine was or shal i say still is the same,
I have to turn my keys 5 times to get it to start up. And sometimes when it does fire up touch the accelerate and it cuts out.

FPR's are generally very reliable, in any Honda car ;)

After having the car sit for 12 months I got her back on the road and am still having starting issues.

Really got to crank the hell out of her on the first start, after that it's fine.

Fuel pump was replaced for an uprated unit so I know it's definitely NOT at fault.

Pressure seems to be getting worse on the gauge but doesn't affect general running apart from tickling the throttle quickly which causes revs to rise then dip before Idle catches it back at 850rpm.

I'm gonna bloody fix this!
