Because they get someone else to pay for the servicing?Greg wrote: there is a reason the police use them.

Id go for the beeeeemer but its not the right choice for a first car in a new self employed business. I'd also be spending more like 5-7k rather than 3. She can buy her own beeeeeeeeeemer when shes making the money. Fair point though, dont get me wrong.

E300 mercedes or E320 i did read that you said no bigger than 2.5 but for a comfy car and on a budget.... OM606 canny be beaten
the V6 "slighty less reliable" but a LOT more poke!
i personally have 1996 JDM CRV on 264 000 k
2005 CRV 2.2 ICDTI
still miss the merc though !
a little bit odd ball but i drive them frequently is the Chrysler 300c estate ( mercedes W211) seriously nice car !
suffer with clock springs - front radius arms
just my 2p
id save your dollar buy a Type s accord - not the same fuel economy as the 2.2 but you'll get a better spec'd car below budget, less components to go wrong ect, and petrol is cheaper....
Saab 95 ? Runs a FPT engine, injector faults ... injectors arnt too pricey egr faults ... blank EGR comfy fast ect ect dont get the TTID !!!!
Just saying the cars ive driven that impressed me ...
working for a fiat saab jeep alfa romeo franchise
ALFA 159 20V JTDM are a hoot too drive reliability ermmm not to mention sub frame rusting... one of the prettiest estates out there though!

Mercedes is out. I just dont like em. interior build quality and excessive cost on servicing.
She doesnt need poke in any way, she needs to do 40k a year on the motorway.
with the crv thats a vauxhell engine, not keen.. also not the right look for a professional consultant.
American cars are worse than french in my book, I couldnt send her out into the world in either and feel I'd done her right and its one of the ugliest cars on the road to be fair.
The accord type S is petrol and doesnt come in estate. Petrol may cost less but it doesnt go as far and engines dont last as long without major work. Like I say, its 40k a year motorway miles so she really doesnt need it.
So far the later model passat is winning. Against the octavia its a much better looking car for no extra money on the purchase value (suprising that, I would have thought the skoda would have been discounted against it but its not noticeably) its got vw build quality and I can get an 08-10 for the money.
the accord is out as its a vauxhell engine, shame really but no, and I cant afford a late enough one to get a honda engine.
I dont know enough about the avensis and its a bit fugly.
I will be sure to post up the eventual purchase. got a few weeks yet. 2010 facelift is looking like the choice, just need to find a good one in budget.
