I thought i fudged my gearbox but...
It turns out the crank pulley decided to become two. I was having another little test of my manual conversion and all of a sudden a horrible noise occurs. Its sounded like metal so seeing as i just built my first gearbox with LSD and ATR 2nd and 3rd gears i feared the worse. But all is good gearbox wise. It was the crank pulley. Ive nursed the car home thinking why now! I just done the manual conversion and havnt had chance to vtec it yet and now this lol. I will get to enjoy the manual-ness soon! I will post pictures if i get the pulley off tomorrow weather depending. Has anyone else ever seen this happen? The car only has 62k miles so i am surprised its happened. It seems to have come away from the rubber dampener.

At least im not the only one. Age related rather than mileage related makes sense. Im putting on the one i have spare and with this info i think i am going to get a new one from Honda for piece of mind. Bet thats going to sting. I didnt spot it early though. If the power steering belt wasnt there it would have flew off. I could pull it off with my hand with the belts removed. It gave way all of a sudden, not gradually.

ive had a crank pulley come loose on my BB4 about 5 years ago - replaced it an not had any issues since.
the pulley didnt seperate but came loose - there was a bit of damage at the keyway in the pulley itself
also make sure you get a new woodruff key when you remove the pulley to do the timing belts or when replacing the pulley.
part number for the woodruff key FOR 4TH GEN is 90704-PT0-000 you would have to double check it is same for 5th gen

Looks the same as mine
I am getting a new one though at some point. The pulley off the donor lude is already looking cracked around the edges of the rubber and im sure its not too far away from being in 2 bits also. Does anyone know how much a genuine pulley is so i know how much money to put aside?

Cheaper than Honda but I got mine here.
However the pulley is a bitch to get off. My mechanic and o had to buy the specific £70 tool to remove the pulley and remove the n/s engine mount to drop the engine enough to get the tool onto the bolt inside the wheel well.

Thanks. Its actually cheaper than i thought. I've already got the pulley off my lude and the donor lude. Breaker bar and crow bar holding the flywheel in place while in gear also. Its a 2 man job really but doable without the tool and dropping the engine. Quality tools are needed as it was very tight. I'm just annoyed that about a year ago i spent a small fortune on new genuine belts and 2 of the 3 belts are now buggered. Ive just used the belts off the donar lude but they are pattern parts. At least the cam belt is still in one piece.
